In celebration of Manufacturing Month, Freedman by Lippert was proud to host students from Orr Academy High School for an inspiring, hands-on introduction to careers in manufacturing.
The visit was made possible through the efforts of Embarc Chicago, who connected Orr Academy, Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC), and Freedman Seating to create a meaningful and educational experience for everyone involved.
Manufacturing Month, recognized nationally each October, shines a spotlight on the vital role manufacturing plays in our economy and communities. It’s an opportunity for manufacturers to open their doors, showcase modern technology, and inspire the next generation of makers. At Freedman, we see it as a chance to share our passion for craftsmanship, innovation, and teamwork—and to help students envision themselves as part of this dynamic industry.
Students began their day with a tour of our Chicago facility, where they saw firsthand how transit seating is designed, engineered, and built from start to finish. Walking the production floor gave them an up-close look at how precision, collaboration, and creativity come together to produce seating solutions that keep passengers safe and comfortable every day.
Next, the group visited JARC’s training center to learn about the technical skills and certifications available for those interested in pursuing manufacturing and welding careers. Many students were surprised by the wide range of opportunities within manufacturing—from design and engineering to quality control, supply chain, and assembly.
Back at Freedman, the group took part in a crash course on blueprint reading, learning how to interpret technical drawings and measurements—an essential foundation for any builder or technician. With guidance from Freedman team members, they then put their new skills to the test by assembling our REVO Heavy Duty Bus Seat. Laughter, teamwork, and pride filled the room as students saw their finished product come together.
