Springfield, Ill. ─ Freedman, a division of Lippert Components, Inc. (Lippert®), a supplier of a broad array of highly engineered components for the leading original equipment manufacturers (“OEMs”) in the recreation and transportation product markets and the related aftermarkets of those industries, announces today that its ADA Transport Bus Seat finished in the Top 8 of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association’s (IMA) Makers Madness competition, which seeks to name the “Coolest Thing Made in Illinois.” The recognition places Freedman among the state’s most innovative manufacturers, as determined through a multi-round, bracket-style voting competition led by IMA.
Freedman entered its ADA Transport Bus Seat for its ability to improve accessibility and efficiency in transit interiors. The innovative seat features a space-saving, flip-up design that maximizes aisle clearance, supporting ADA accessibility, smoother passenger flow, and more flexible bus layouts for transit agencies and operators.
The Top 8 recognition was celebrated during the Makers Madness Awards Luncheon, held at the Illinois Governor’s Mansion in Springfield, where members of the Freedman team attended alongside fellow Illinois manufacturers to recognize the innovation and craftsmanship represented across the state. Awards were presented by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and IMA President Mark Denzler.
“This recognition reflects the work of our engineers, designers, and manufacturing teams who focus every day on solving real-world transit challenges,” said Hannah Corn, Vice President of Marketing. “Improving accessibility and passenger movement is critical for public transportation systems, and we’re proud to see this work recognized at the state level.”
Makers Madness, hosted annually by the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association, highlights products manufactured in Illinois through a public voting process, culminating in an awards event at the Governor’s Mansion. The competition showcases the breadth of manufacturing innovation across the state, from transportation and infrastructure to advanced technology and consumer products.
This year’s Top 8 finish builds on Freedman’s previous success in the competition. In 2022, the company advanced to the Top 16, reinforcing its continued commitment to innovation within the Illinois manufacturing community.
